A people's supermarket for Brighton and Hove?

Last meeting was 24th May - more info on facebook here. Next meeting to be confimed.

The first open discussion on creating an ethical/people's supermarket in the city, including consideration of the site of the old Lewes Road Community Garden, was held on Wednesday April 13th The Friends' Meeting House.

Speakers included:
Ruth Anslow from Hisbe CIC which wants to launch a series of food stores where the focus is people before profits. She discussed how an alternative to Tesco IS possible and how it's been done before.
Maureen Winder and Amelia Mills from the Triangle Community Group gave background on the site and the latest developments.
This was followed by an open discussion on whether as a community we want to make an ethical/people's supermarket on the site.

This event on Facebook.

We are urgently interested in an alternative use for the development on the space of the old Lewes Road Community Garden, rather than yet another supermarket. If anyone has any suggestions about alternatives or approaches to dealing with this please contact us.
